THE WORLD’S LARGEST CARBON DIOXIDE REMOVAL PLANT.
Climeworks is a Swiss company, a world leader in carbon capture technologies. The plant absorbs gas directly from the air and then concentrates it for safe and permanent geological storage, thus contributing to the fight against climate change.
Morandé Wine Group (MWG) announced a significant step in its commitment to sustainability by additionally focusing on the active removal of CO₂. In this way, Morandé Wine Group, through Viña Mancura, partners with Climeworks to incorporate CO₂ removal as an integral part of its environmental strategy.
The alliance between Morandé Wine Group, through Mancura, and Climeworks will allow the winery to eliminate 10% of its historical CO₂ emissions, strengthening its commitment to sustainability. This initiative is complemented by the goal of reducing emissions by 5% annually and adopting sustainable practices to achieve a carbon-neutral future.
The Sustainability Code is considered the cornerstone of the Chilean wine industry’s sustainability program. It identifies the sector’s needs in three areas: vineyards, winery, and community, understanding that sustainability is the convergence of environmentally friendly production, social equity, and economic viability. Mancura is one of the first wineries in Chile to fully comply with Wines of Chile’s sustainability code in all three areas.
